Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Later Life Planner?
The Later Life Planner is a practical organiser that helps you keep your important personal, household, medical and financial information together in one place. It also includes space to record your wishes, making things much easier for you and your loved ones if the information is ever needed.
Who is the planner for?
The planner is suitable for adults of any age. While many people buy it for themselves, it’s also a thoughtful gift for parents, grandparents or anyone who wants to make life a little easier for their family in the future. Please note that child sections are not included in the planner.
Is the planner a legal document?
No. The Later Life Planner is not a legal document and it does not replace a will or a Lasting Power of Attorney. Instead, it works alongside them by recording all the practical information that those legal documents don’t cover.
Why do I need this if I already have a will?
A will explains what should happen to your estate after you’ve died, but it doesn’t tell your family where important documents are kept, who your utility suppliers are, what medications you take, or many of the other everyday details they may need. The Later Life Planner helps keep all of that information together in one place.
Can I update the information?
Yes. Life changes, and the planner is designed so you can update your information whenever you need to. There are 5 blank pages at the end of the planner for changes or extra information.
Is my information secure?
The planner is designed to be kept somewhere safe at home. Only you can decide who knows where it is kept and who has access to it. It is a good idea to tell someone you trust where the planner is kept. The planner doesn’t ask for your full bank account details or passwords, it’s best only to record partial details.
Is the Later Life Planner a death or end-of-life planner?
This planner can be used to record end-of-life wishes and final arrangements, but that it’s broader than that — it also covers personal information, medical details, household information, finances, contacts and practical arrangements.
Does the Later Life Planner include final wishes and funeral arrangements?
Yes. The Later Life Planner includes space to record your final wishes and important information about your funeral arrangements. It can help you keep details such as your preferred funeral director, coffin type, service and wake locations, and your preferences and other instructions together in one place, making it easier for your loved ones to know what you would like when the time comes.
It is designed as a practical planner for all aspects of later life, not just end-of-life arrangements.
Is the planner suitable if I live alone?
The planner includes sections for personal details, medical information, household information, financial information, important contacts, pets, subscriptions, and your wishes for the future, along with much more.
Is the Later Life Planner suitable for two people?
The planner is designed for one person. Although couples often share some information, you’ll each have your own personal details, medical history, finances and wishes. Having one planner each keeps everything organised and makes it much easier for your family if the information is ever needed.
Is this only for older people?
Not at all. Although it’s called the Later Life Planner, many people choose to complete it long before they need it. Being organised at any age can save time, reduce stress and provide peace of mind. No child sections are included in the planner though, so please bear this in mind when purchasing.
Where do you deliver?
The Later Life Planner is currently available for delivery throughout the UK.
Can I buy the planner as a gift?
Yes. Many customers buy the planner for a parent or another family member. It can be a thoughtful way to help someone get organised and make things easier for those they care about.
I'm a will writer or estate planner. Can I offer the Later Life Planner to my clients?
Yes. Will writers and estate planners find the Later Life Planner is the perfect companion to a will, helping clients organise all the practical information that isn’t included in their legal documents. If you’re interested in offering the planner to your clients, please email karen@laterlifeplanner.co.uk
